Renewal — FAQs
Do I need a new USB token to renew?
No. Renewal reuses your existing token, which is why it costs less than a new certificate. You only need a new token if your current one is lost or damaged.
When does the new validity start?
From the date you renew — not from your old expiry date. If your certificate expires in a week and you renew today, the new term is counted from today, so renew close to expiry to avoid losing days.
Can I renew after my certificate has expired?
Yes. If it has already expired we issue a fresh certificate through the same process. There is no penalty — you simply cannot sign until the new one is issued.
Is the renewal process different from a new certificate?
The steps are the same, including video verification. The only difference is that no new token is dispatched — the renewed certificate is downloaded onto your existing token.
Are the documents different for renewal?
The required documents are the same as a new certificate for each type (Individual, Organization Combo or DGFT). Select your type above to see the exact list.
How long does renewal take?
Usually the same day, once your documents and video verification are complete.
